Cover letters, selection criteria and resumes (CVs) should be error free. But getting someone to read over them for you may not pick up everything. Double spaces is an example of this. These days most people only put single spaces after comas and full stops so one way of picking up double spaces is to use Replace in Word.
Find what: (press space bar twice)
Replace with: (press space bar once)
Now click Find next. I don't choose Replace All so I can look at what Word is proposing to change.
