(key) selection criteria

[1] A guide on addressing selection criteria for applicants (Aus Gov't)

[2] Selection criteria

The two links are a great start to answering the Selection Criteria which the job description contains.
[1] this link, though it seems bit complicated, talks about one of the most valuable things you will need both for your application and, hopefully, your interview! It is the STAR approach. eg

While shelving at Kingston Library during my industry placement I noticed that the returns pile was getting too large [(S)ituation]

I needed to ensure that the items were made available for library patrons as quickly as possible [(T)ask - outline what you needed to do]

I left my shelving and proceded to process the items and place them on the sorting trolleys ready for re-shelving. [(A)ction - how you did it]

This enabled items to be put back on the shelves for borrowing and also allowed my colleagues to be able to give all their attention to patrons whom they were dealing with. This showed that I can use my intiative and that I recognise the value of teamwork. [(R)esult]

[2] The second link is a really handy one also. It talks about the importance of selling yourself through the application.

In future posts I'll mention
* key words in key selection criteria (KSC)
* the cover letter - "you get 4.5 seconds to get their attention"
* accuracy, typos, font, and font size - "one typo and your application gets binned"
* who is going to check your application before you send it? (not you!)

  3. Hi Tez and LibTechers,
Has anyone tried to access the KSC for the latest VU job (15872G)? The link brings up a page that doesn't seem to include the job advertised, or is it me that's not functioning properly?

  4. Hi all,
Forget that last comment. The link does work now. Even though it's called a "Client Service Officer" and not a "Library Tech" they do want a Diploma or alternatively a Certificate with work experience. BTW it's at Newport.
