Melbourne Cricket Ground is synonymous with Melbourne and is regarded as one of the world’s most famous, iconic and historical stadiums and is managed by the Melbourne Cricket Club.
The MCC is undertaking a major project to successfully catalogue a backlog of the MCC Library’s holdings.
Assistant Librarian (Cataloguing
Reporting to the Librarian, the Assistant Librarian will work on a full time fixed term basis. This position will be responsible for cataloguing and abstracting library holdings on to the Inmagic DB Textworks database using the in-house classification system. Other duties will include assisting with the cataloguing of new acquisitions when required; regular maintenance of the Library catalogue database; and maintenance, development and upgrading of the in-house classification system.
Library Technician
Reporting to the Librarian, the Library Technician will work on a part time fixed term basis (approximately 19 hours per week). This position will be responsible for copy-cataloguing and abstracting library holdings on to the Inmagic DB Textworks database using the in-house classification system. Other duties include sorting and preparing uncatalogued material for the cataloguing team; authority file maintenance; assisting with collection management including preparation of material for display or storage; and undertaking preventive and active conservation and repairs.
Both positions require you to possess a tertiary qualification in Library or Information Management studies or have completed an ALIA library technician accredited course, have extensive knowledge and experience in the area of collections storage and handling, and have a broad knowledge of and enthusiasm for Australian sports. You will have sound computer skills, 2-3 years of demonstrated experience with DB Textworks or a similar database is desirable, a high level of attention to detail and task completion, interpersonal, negotiating and communication skills.
